Poemetry by T.A. Barnhart

as God was finally leaving
this universe behind,
He turned and look back
(as He had zapped
Lot’s wife for doing),
smirked,
raised His middle finger,
and disappeared forever.
i breathed a sigh of relief.
alone at last.
thank….
i smiled wanly at my lame joke,
then looked up
into that empty sky.
now what? i thought.
getting rid of God
was only a beginning.
now i was stuck
with making the big decisions.
no more “the Lord’s will”
or “waiting on the Spirit”.
it was now on me
to create the world
in my own image.
i decided to start
with a nice breakfast.
i’d think about it
over a short stack,
bacon,
and coffee.
